INDICATIONS:
Sheep and goats:
For therapy and control of internal parasites in sheep and goats caused by gastrointestinal round woems (Haemonchus sp, Nematodirus sp, Ostertagia sp, Trichostrongylus sp, Cooperia sp, Oesophagostomum sp, Tichuris sp, Strongyloides sp., Chabertia sp., etc), by respiratory worms (Dictyocaulus filaria), by flat worms cestodes or taenia (Moniezia sp.) and by liver parasites (Fasciola hepática).
PARZEN 2.5% C.S.® controls larvae, adult and eggs from stomach and intestine worms and is effective also against cyst larvae of Ostertegia type II and against strains of Haemonchus contortus and Trichostrongylus colubrifornus resistant to other benzimidazole. PARZEN 2.5% C.S.® kills adult woems, larvae and eggs from pulmonary worms, proglotides and eggs from flat worms (taenia), as well as adult forms and eggs from Fasciola hepática.
PARZEN 2.5% C.S.® must be used for therapy and prevention of cobalt and selenium defficiencies associated to parasite infestations, because cobalt is involved in vitamin B12 synthesis, improves ruminal flora and therefore helps to cellulose digestibility. Selenium has several actions: cell protection, anti-inflamatory activity, increases fertility and improves feed conversion.
DOSE:
For control of pulmonary worms, gastrointestinal round worms and cestodes: 3.8 mg by kg body weight. For control of Fasciola hepática 4.5 mg by kg as prophylactic, 7.6 mg as therapeutic according to dosing chart.

Both PARZEN 2.5% C.S.® as web as PARZEN BOVINOS 10% C.S.® have as main active ingredient albendazole (metyl 5-propiltio-1 H-benzimidazole-2-il carbamate). This is a benzymidazole-carbamate of high potency and wide spectrum. Its gastrointestinal absorption is limited, and a higher dose is required for anti-trematode effect. It has a half life of 10 hours approximately. It is metabolized almost completely in liver by oxidation, hydroxylation and sulphoxidation resulting in two active metabolites. It is eliminated by excrement and urinary routes. At ba 20 mmg/kg dose it is eliminated mostly within 72 hours, and residues of 0.1 ppm are detected at 12 days. Residues disappear from tissues and liver more slowly than febantel, fenbendazole and oxfendazole. It has been documented that this long permanence in the body is one of the bases of albendazole efficacy. This same dose get a maximum activity in active metabolites (sulfone and sulfoxid) as well as small quantities of mother compound at 15-24 hours, reaching highly efficient therapeutic concentration of 5 μg/ml. Nevertheless, a maximum antihelmintic efficacy is reached at a dose of 2.5 to 7.5 mg/kg by oral route. There are no base albendazole preparations for injectable administration. Albendazole sulfoxide sold for subcutaneous administration is extremely irritant because its pH is very low, necessary for its dissolution.
PARZEN 2.5% C.S.® and PARZEN BOVINOS 10% C.S.® were designed to be administered by the oral route because rumen serves as reservoir that keeps sustained release of albendazole, therefore having efficient action for several days.
Doses up to 45 mg/kg are tolerated without adverse effects, and a small mortality percentage is obeserved at 300 mg/kg, this is at least 30 times maximum therapeutic dose.
